| As China’s development has entered a new era,new requirements have been put forward for teaching.The cultivation of English core literacy has been paid more and more attention in junior high school English teaching.At the same time,in the context of curriculum ideology and politics,it is necessary to spread traditional Chinese culture in teaching,so the requirements for cultural background knowledge teaching are getting higher and higher.The teaching of cultural background knowledge in reading will deepen students’ understanding of reading materials,promote the development of students’ reading literacy and help students clear away some reading barriers.Cultural background knowledge is a kind of content schema.Combined with Schema Theory,in view of the teaching status quo of cultural background knowledge in junior high school English reading,the author puts forward two research questions:(1)What’s the status quo of the teaching content and teaching methods of cultural background knowledge in junior English reading class?(2)What are the causes of the existing problems in the teaching of cultural background knowledge in junior English reading class? Taking a junior high school in Binzhou city as an example,the author investigates the current situation and probes into existing problems of cultural background knowledge teaching in junior high school English reading class through questionnaire survey,interview and classroom observation,then analyzes the causes of the problems and puts forward some corresponding suggestions.Through the investigation,the author finds that the teaching content of cultural background knowledge of English reading in junior high school is mainly traditional Chinese culture.Teaching method mainly adopts teacher-centered instruction,assisted by multimedia.In view of the current situation and problems,through further investigation,the author finds that although the teaching of cultural background knowledge in junior high school English reading class has received the attention of teachers,there are still some problems.In terms of teaching content,the teaching content of cultural background knowledge is insufficient.In terms of teaching method,the teacher-centered instruction shows that the teacher is still the center of the classroom in most cases.The author further analyzes the causes of the existing problem.In terms of teachers,teachers’ cultural background knowledge reserve is insufficient,and most teachers do not have sufficient consciousness of the teaching of cultural background knowledge.In terms of students,students do not pay enough attention to the learning of cultural background knowledge,do not form a good habit of learning cultural background knowledge,and do not fully mobilize the initiative of learning cultural background knowledge.The author puts forward the following suggestions: in the aspect of teachers,teachers should establish the concept of lifelong learning,constantly enrich their own cultural background knowledge.Interactive teaching method is suggested.Teachers may appropriately add the background knowledge of the cultural differences between the East and the West to enrich the schema content,and mobilize students’ participation.In terms of students,they should develop a good habit of reading cultural knowledge,actively participate in classroom learning,and expand the cultural background knowledge reserve. |
