| Qiu Chuji(1148-1227),with the word tongmi and the road name Changchun Zi,was born in Qixia,Dengzhou.He was a Taoist in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties and one of the"northern seven immortals" of the Quanzhen School of Taoism.He wrote more than 400 poems in his life,which are mainly included in his poetry collection "collection of Panxi"and his disciple Li Zhichang’s "journey to the west of Changchun".His poems are both Taoist and poetic,melting literature and religion into one furnace,showing profound Taoist ideas with beautiful literary language and rich artistic techniques,and realizing the blending of literariness and philosophy.Qiu Chuji’s poems represent the highest level of Taoist poems in Jin and Yuan Dynasties to a certain extent.This paper mainly studies the path and skills of Qiu Chuji in transmitting Taoist ideas with the language and artistic techniques of poetry,objectively evaluates the literary value and shortcomings of his poetry,and then peeps into the new changes of philosophical poetry and religious poetry in the Jin and Yuan Dynasties from a perspective.The first part of the paper discusses Qiu Chuji’s life and writings,so as to master the background of his poetry creation.Qiu Chuji’s such materials are mainly recorded in the history of the Yuan Dynasty,the authentic record of golden lotus,the record of sweet water fairy fate,the complete book of Qiu Zu,the collection of Panxi,the journey to the west of Changchun,and other Taoist classics.Qiu Chuji’s monastic experience deeply influenced his poetry creation,and mastering his theoretical works is helpful to understand the connotation of poetry.The second part of the paper briefly describes the Taoist ideas contained in Qiu Chuji’s poems,in order to deeply understand the connotation of his poems.The Taoist ideas in Qiu Chuji’s poems are based on Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu’s thoughts,contain the Quanzhen thought,and occasionally involve some Confucian and Buddhist thoughts.Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu’s thoughts absorbed by Qiu Chuji mainly covers the pursuit of human nature,the way of dealing with the world without serving things,and the free and carefree,open-minded and detached attitude towards life.His Quanzhen theory mainly includes the pursuit of faith,such as knowing the mind and seeing the nature,cultivating the nature and refining life,retiring after success,refining internal alchemy,Quanzhen and immortality.The third part discusses Qiu Chuji’s methods and effects of conveying Taoist ideas with poetic language and techniques.Qiu Chuji’s poetry works embody Tao with the special images of Quanzhen religion,and use the techniques of borrowing things to express feelings and expressing aspirations to create a Taoist environment and convey the meaning of Tao.His poems are also preached by allusions,mainly citing allusions from Taoist literary works,so as to publicize the concept of Taoism and add magical color.At the same time,it uses music to preach and understand the Tao,adds the phonological beauty of Taoist poetry,and symbolizes the process of cultivating and understanding the Tao with music.Qiu Chuji’s poems also show a detached atmosphere of reaching the Tao.In the early stage,they are empty and quiet,fresh and elegant,and in the later stage,they are magnificent and broad-minded.The fourth part of the paper puts Qiu Chuji’s Taoist poetry in the history of Taoist poetry,and objectively evaluates its gains and losses in writing Taoist ideas with poetic language and artistic techniques.His poems draw on the writing experience of metaphysical poetry and fairy poetry of previous generations,such as full of broad cosmic consciousness,understanding the Tao with the help of landscape scenery,expanding the poetic realm with the combination of virtual and real,and artistic processing of fairy allusions.Qiu Chuji made new changes on the basis of inheriting his predecessors,and expressed metaphysics in more diverse ways,but he was slightly inferior to the previous literati in ideological implication and artistic skills.Qiu Chuji is also deeply influenced by the idea and purport of Quanzhen poetry.Poetry writing focuses on elucidating Quanzhen doctrine,but can broaden the theme of Taoist poetry according to personal experience and increase the literariness and lyricism of Taoist works. |
