A Report On Escort Interpreting In Agricultural Machinery Exhibition

With the "the Belt and Road Initiative"and opening up wider to the outside world policy,all dimensional and multilevel cooperation between China and other countries and regions reaches a new height.International exhibitions of all kinds have also proliferated over the past years.The author participates in several international agricultural machinery exhibitions to interpret for foreign participants.This report is based on the interpreting practices in these agricultural machinery exhibitions the author participated in.In this report,the author generalizes several coping strategies for escort interpreting under the guidance of Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory.This report is predicated upon Functional Equivalence Theory which is proposed by Eugene Nida.Based on the response of the target audience,it lays stress on functional equivalence between languages because the blind pursuit of formal equivalence leads to misunderstanding.In the process of interpreting,techniques of adjustment,such as addition,omission and conversion,can be used to achieve functional equivalence between different languages.Under the guidance of the theory,the report makes an analysis of the problems encountered in the process of interpreting at lexical,syntactic and discourse levels,and explains techniques used at each level.This report consists of six parts:four chapters plus introduction and conclusion.The introduction part states the focus of this report.Chapter One introduces the background and content of the interpreting task.Chapter Two sketches Nida’s F-E Theory and discusses feasibility of F-E Theory in interpreting practice and the way the author adopted to address interpreting difficulties.Chapter Three is a case study,expounding difficulties encountered and strategies adopted in interpreting process by the author.Chapter Four demonstrates the author’s reflections on his interpreting practices.The last part of this report is conclusion.This report aims to provide references for escort interpreting in the situation of exhibitions and arouses further interests on coping strategies of escort interpreting.
