A Report On C-E Escort Interpreting For A Visit To Agricultural Machinery Enterprises

This report is based on the author's escort interpreting for a visit to agricultural machinery enterprises.It describes the task of escort interpreting for daily affairs,enterprise visit and banquet.In this report,the author conducts interpreting case analysis under the guidance of Relevance Theory in agricultural machinery.As for the application of Relevance Theory in interpreting,two rounds of ostensive-inferential communication take place in interpreting.In this process,cognitive context and optimal relevance play important roles in comprehension and expression of interpreters.Under the theoretical guidance of ostensive-inferential model,cognitive context and optimal relevance,the author analyzes interpreting cases in the recording of enterprise visit and banquet.From three aspects of inferential process,cognitive gap and degrees of relevance,the author explores how to seek solutions and choose interpreting strategies to cope with six categories of difficulties in agricultural machinery including professional expressions,incomplete information,measurement information,culture-loaded words,redundant information and lack of logicality.The report does thorough analysis of the author's interpretation with the aid of the interpreting model based on cognitive context and optimal relevance.It summarizes how to develop interpreting competence comprehensively in pre-task preparation,interpreting process and post-task reflection,and hopes to provide inspiration and reference for interpreting practice of other interpreters in the similar field.
