In recent years,universities both at home and abroad have been paying more and more attention to the construction of their websites.Website language construction plays an important part during this process,so the study on the translation of campus websites is of great significance.At present,there are few translation studies on campus websites in China,and most of them focus on C-E translation,while relatively few studies are on E-C translation.On the one hand,studying the translation of foreign university websites is helpful to learn the idiomatic expressions of foreign university websites and improve the English translation of domestic university websites;On the other hand,it also helps to learn about the advanced curriculum,teaching concepts and training programs of foreign universities,and promote exchanges and cooperation among universities.This report is based on the E-C translation practice of the official website information of Saint Louis University.The source text introduces the teaching philosophy,history,and campus events of the university.The source text is informative which contains a large number of proper nouns and culture-loaded words,and many attributive clauses,passive sentences,and long or difficult sentences are used in the description.The purpose of this translation practice is to convey the information of the source text accurately and smoothly.This report mainly analyzes the translation difficulties at the lexical and syntactic level in the translation process and discusses the corresponding solutions.At the lexical level,transliteration,free translation as well as transliteration,and free translation are adopted for the translation of proper nouns;annotation and literal translation are used for the translation of culture-loaded words.At the syntactic level,for the translation of attributive clauses,preposition and postposition are applied;for passive sentences,they are translated into passive and active sentences in the target text;for the translation of long or difficult sentences,translation skills like inversion,division,and restructuring are applied to deal with them.The author hopes her translation practice and case analysis can provide a certain reference for future research on the translation of campus websites. |
