The translation techniques of scientific and technical texts have always been the focus of attention of translators and have often been the subject of discussion in the field of translation studies.Fighting Type 2 Diabetes: HOPE is a health guide to the process of treating diabetes by Lukas Grumlik. This book provides readers with recommendations and methods of treating type 2 diabetes. The language of full text is plain. As a diabetic patient, the author provides help for readers. In the process of translation, the translator first deduces the intention of the author of the source text guided by relevance theory. At the same time, the readers’ cognitive context should be considered to weaken the obscure expressions of the source text and reduce the readers’ reading difficulties. Then appropriate translation techniques are employed to present the text that has optimal relevance to the target readers.Under the guidance of relevance theory, typical cases are analyzed from lexical, syntactical and textual levels. The text type is combined with the theory to explore methods and techniques for English-Chinese translation of scientific and technical texts,so that the professionalism and objectivity of the translation are more in line with the source text and the language is more real. Therefore, the difficulty of reading the target text can be reduced to the minimum and the function of the source text to readers can be maximized. Finally,by solving some problems in the process of translation, this report aims to provide reference for the future translation of this kind of text.Through this translation practice, the following conclusions can be drawn: relevance theory can guide the translation of scientific and technical text.English for science and technology is characterized by extensive use of technical terms and abbreviations in terms of vocabulary, polysemy, clauses and passive voice in sentences and conjunctions in text.In the process of translation, the translator should grasp the author’s purpose, give full consideration to the target readers’ cognitive context, seek appropriate translation methods and techniques, enhance the effect of context and reduce target readers’ processing efforts,so as to achieve the optimal relevance between the target text and the target readers.Figure 0;Table 2;Reference 34... |
