| This is a report on E-C translation of Client-Centered Software Development: The CO-FOSS Approach(Chapter Seven)authored by Allen Tucker. The selected chapter concentrates on the discussion of developing a good client-oriented user interface.Under the guidance of Explicitation theory, the translator adopted several explicitation strategies to manifest the implicitness of the source text. This report will analyze the solutions to implicitness at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels based on examples: at the lexical level,it will focus on noting for proper nouns, concrete explicitation for titles, abstract nouns and semi-technical terms,as well as conversion for prepositions;at the syntactic level,it will discuss explicitation of logical meaning by using amplification, cutting and restructuring to achieve semantic coherence;and at the discourse level,it will focus on the explicitation of pronouns and referential nouns by using reversion to achieve structural cohesion. This report shows that explicitaion strategies in E-C translation of the scientific and technical text are of great importance to manifest the implicitness for the improvement of the translation quality. |
