A Study Of Copyright Contract Translation Guided By The Theory Of Translation Action By Manttari

In recent years,the domestic media industry has witnessed rapid development,with the Internet media giants like Youku,Aiqiyi and Tencent and established media organizations like Zhejiang Satellite TV and Hunan Satellite TV imitating and competing each other to introduce the copyright of overseas high-quality programs.However,the lack of professional experience and understanding of copyright contracts leads to copyright disputes and other serious consequences in international copyright cooperation.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to translate and study copyright contracts.Guided by the theory of translational action proposed by Manttari,a representative of the School of Functional Translation Theory,this report takes the translation of NBCU Channel License Agreement as the research object to explore and analyze the difficulties and translation strategies of the copyright contracts from three perspectives:the translation of copyright contract as a cross-cultural communication action,purposeful action,and translator-centered action both from theoretical and practical levels.It is found that from the perspective of a cross-cultural communication action,translators need to focus on syntactical structure and voice differences between the two languages,and adjust the translation to improve the readability of the copyright contract;from the perspective of a purposeful activity,translators should pay special attention to the translation of the vocabulary existing in copyright field and contracts in order to present the professional and normative features of the copyright contract;from the perspective of a translator-centered action,translators should edit the source text properly before doing translation in order to make the copyright contract easy to operate,rather than pursuing a word-for-word translation approach.It is hoped that this report can shed some light on the translation of copyright contracts.
