| Coffee: A Global History is a book about coffee’s history,which was written by Jonathan Morris,a great British historian.The translation of this book can help coffee lovers or the public have a better understanding of coffee and its history.In recent years,artificial intelligence and the technology of machine translation have been rapidly developed.Machine translation has been used in a more popular way in the language service industry.Although great progress has been made in machine translation,the quality of its output still cannot be comparable to that of professional translators.In order to give full play to their advantages and achieve a balance between the quality and the efficiency of translation,post-editing has been greatly adopted in the language service industry.The translation mode of MTPE has become the priority of translation.The materials selected in this practice are the first and fifth chapters of Coffee: A Global History.In view of its main function to convey information,according to Reiss’ Text Type Theory,the text is an informative text of humanities and social sciences,with simple words,objective and plain expressions.In view of the efficiency and quality of translation,the translation mode of MTPE is adopted by the translator,and Sogou Translator is chosen as the tool.The report analyzes the advantages and the main errors of the output by Sogou Translator,and discusses the corresponding post-editing methods from lexical level,syntactic level and discoursal level,based on the guidelines of Translation Automation User Society(TAUS).According to the employment of MTPE in this practice,the report proposes that,the translation mode of MTPE could be employed in the informative text of humanities and social sciences while post-editing should be given more attention.Besides,the reports also summarizes the main types of errors in this output by MT and the methods of post-editing,so as to provide some reference for the translation of the similar texts by MTPE in the future. |
