Reading is a basic cognitive skill in human activities.The process of reading is influenced by many factors,including the difference between readers themselves and the difference between reading materials.Most researchers use print as the material for reading research.In recent years,with the deepening of reading research,more and more researchers begin to pay attention to the cognitive mechanism and processing process of handwritten text reading.Of pinyin words handwriting studies have shown that people who read the script of cognitive processing and print is different,and the vocabulary level vocabulary such as word frequency characteristics are studied,the results found that the tricky handwriting material with greater frequency in effect,that people who read the tricky alphabet writing script relies more on top-down processing.On this basis,the researchers compared the experimental materials from handwritten words with handwritten sentences,and in accordance with the eye of more precise instrument to experiment,the results found in the sentence read also found that the larger word frequency effect,and with more fixation and regression,the instructions for the tricky English handwriting need to consume more cognitive resources,and concentrated in the late stage of cognitive processing.Based on their own characteristics,Chinese characters are significantly different from English letters.For example,the density of Chinese characters per unit area is large,and the strokes cross each other.Therefore,Chinese characters are more suitable to study the influence of subvocabulary on reading.Predecessors to omit strokes of Chinese characters study,omit 15% of stroke has no effect on reading,ellipsis exists obvious difference between 30% and 50% of stroke,but the material used for the study are printed,not considering the handwriting and the difference between the printed materials,so this study respectively from the level of vocabulary and the vocabulary levels to explore the cognitive process of Chinese script reading and processing mode,vocabulary level of performance in the subjects of the identification of material,the proportion of the vocabulary level is omitted strokes,therefore,this research can be recognizable and omit stroke effect on handwritten Chinese reading.This paper consists of two studies.One is to investigate the effects of legibility(printed,easy to recognize and hard to recognize handwriting)and stroke omission(0%,15%,30% and 50%)on handwritten Chinese characters at the character level.The results show that the main effect of identifiability is significant,the main effect of stroke omission is significant,and the interaction between them is also significant.At the 15%omission level,the response time of unidentifiable handwritten is significantly different from that of printed and easy to identify,but this difference disappears at the 30% and 50%levels,indicating that the processing methods of various identifiable degrees tend to be the same after the 30% omission level,and all of them rely more on bottom-up processing.Study two using eye tracking technology for further discussion,from the perspective of the sentence as a whole analysis results show that the total reading time,average fixation time and total fixation number,identification of the main effect significantly,omit the main effect of stroke significantly,the interaction of both is significant,and research a different is,in a sentence in the reading,omit the 30% and 50%level obviously recognizable differences on the number of strokes,which is difficult to identify sentences presents longer reading times at the 50% level,the average fixation time and look at more.Because sentences can provide more top-down cognitive resources than words,it indicates that when 50% horizontal strokes are omitted,there are significant differences in the processing methods of sentences with different identifiable degrees.Watching local analysis results show that in the first time and stare at the time,the identification of the main effect significantly,omit the main effect of stroke significantly,but the interaction of the two was not significant,indicating that in the early stages of cognitive processing,subjects of different identification of material processing way close to,and analyze the interest area always looking times found that both the main and a significant interaction effect significantly,indicating that the tricky handwriting materials in the late stage of cognitive processing need to look at more to make up for the inadequacy of bottom-up processing.To sum up,this study explores the cognitive processing methods of handwriting at lexical and sublexical levels.The results show that,compared with printed and easily recognizable handwriting,the processing of hard-to-recognize handwriting requires greater reading costs.With the increase of stroke omission level,sentence reading showed greater recognition effect,but not in the early index of eye movement,which indicated that people’s cognitive processing of handwriting mainly depended on top-down processing in the early stage,and more depended on bottom-up processing in the later stage.Compared with printed and easily identifiable handwriting,the bottom-up information of difficult-to-recognize handwriting is relatively scarce.This bottom-up cognitive difference is particularly obvious in stroke omission effect.
