This study mainly focuses on the progressive conjunctions in the model essays of writing textbooks in Teaching Chinese as A Second Language(TCSL).The researcher attempts to find the reasons for the errors of progressive conjunctions made by foreign students in these textbooks.Furthermore,some targeted suggestions for improving these errors were proposed.On the basis of previous studies,this thesis conducts a detailed classification of progressive conjunctions in modern Chinese,and analyzes their using characteristics in the second chapter.With statistical analysis methods,the third chapter makes a thorough investigation of progressive conjunctions in these writing textbooks in TCSL:Developing Chinese·Intermediate Writing Course;Road To Success·Upper Elementary·Reading and Writing and Chinese Integrated Writing(Li Xun),then their characteristics of distribution and application are extracted and analyzed.The fourth chapter mainly focuses on the analysis and induction of the pragmatic characteristics of"shenzhi(甚至)",which is more flexible and difficult for foreign students to learn,and then distinguishes some synonymous words in progressive conjunctions,such as"bing(并)","qie(且)","bingqie(并且)","erqie(而且)",also,analyzes the words with multiple parts of speech,such as"bing(并)"and"qie(且)".Based on the examples of progressive conjunctions in these three writing textbooks in TCSL,the researcher discusses the types and characteristics of polysyndeton involved in progressive conjunctions,also,analyzes some areas needed to be improved while investigating the progressive conjunctions in writing textbooks in TCSL.The fifth chapter uses the HSK dynamic composition corpus to classify the errors of progressive conjunctions made by foreign students into four categories: mis-generation,wrong sequence,omission and wrong addition.Then according to the analysis of the progressive conjunctions in the previous chapter,the researcher proposes corresponding opinions and suggestions on the compilation of the current writing textbooks in TCSL.In view of the characteristics of the writing materials and writing instruction of TCSL.The sixth chapter provides some suggestions for TCSL instruction from three aspects: classroom component,instructional methods and classroom design.Finally,based on the error analysis,the characteristics of progressive conjunctions,as well as the features of the current writing materials and writing instruction in TCSL,the researcher provides corresponding opinions on the acquisition and how to use progressive conjunctions correctly in writing for foreign students.
