In the context of the COVID-19 global pandemic,the popularity of non-native Chinese learner continues to increase,and the demand of related Chinese reading materials continues to increase also.In this circumstance,there are a large number of Chinese reading materials for non-native learner available on the market which are various in quality.In order to transfer and spread Chinese culture,most of the readings are based on the local culture.Yet there are huge numbers of the readers are Christian background.In view of this,the author selects the western religious subject-Bible Story to write or edit so as to make it suitable for non-native Chinese learner.After comparing and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of different versions of the Bible story,the author choses the Chinese children’s Bible story "One Mind of Jesus" by Sarah Yang,a famous spiritual writer,as the original materials.In view of the difficulty of reading children’s Bible stories in the market,it is necessary to assign a reasonable difficulty level for non-native Chinese learner come out a progressive,reader-friendly series of reading materials.The progressive,reader-friendly series of reading materials need a certain leveling standard,but so far there is no official standard available.Therefore,based on the children’s corpus,the author selects some official or authoritative syllabus and books,attempts to develop a leveling standard,which is the main part of this paper.The leveling standard as follows.Firstly,based on children’s corpus selected 500 most high frequency words as "500 words",and then this "500 words" to compare with “YCT exam outline and examination guidelines” and the overlap words to be divided into two,total in 8 levels.The not overlap words are also grouped into the 8 levels according to certain criteria.Each of the “8-level words” is grouped with “vocabulary”,‘topic”,“mission” and“gramma” and so as to define the leveling of the words.The frequency of the words,length of the sentences and paragraphs are standardized in each of the leveling guided the editing of the bible stories.The leveling standard is the main part of the paper.There are total 8 edited stories which corresponding to each of the “8-level words” and based on the above mention standard.The 8 sample stories are shedding the light for editing bible story and provided some guidance and references.Hopefully there will be more and more qualified progressive,reader-friendly series of reading materials for non-native Chinese learner available in the market.
