Based on the author’s independent completion of C-E translation project of Regulations on Administration of Distant Water Fishery, this report of translation mainly analyses problems arising in the translation process, discusses how to solve those problems with relevant translation strategies, and how to carry out the C-E translation of legal texts. The experiences from this legal text translation are supposed to provide reference for translators of other legal texts. As a unique type of documentation, legal texts differ from other types of texts when it comes to translation.Legal language,as an external form of expression of legal system,is a special professional language used by related workers in the practice of law-making and law enforcement. With accurate and precise terms, and many professional terms, legal language represents authority, accuracy and professionalism. The translation purpose of legal texts is to convey every intention of the law-maker of the source text to the reader of the translated texts,to make the information in the translated text as complete as in the source texts,so as to exert the same legal effect as the source texts.Through the analysis of revised translation versions, the author finds that, among the relevant strategies, the Static Equivalent Strategy, proposed by professor Li Kexing,is more targeted and inclusive. This strategy is in conformity with the static characteristics of the legal language and the characteristics of the fixed textual structure in legal texts,so it is more applicable to the characteristics of the legal texts. Therefore, this report of translation will analyze normal mistakes in the practice, such as incomprehensible understanding of the source text, inappropriate translation style, mistranslation and omission.and then summarize them from the three dimensions of word, sentence and text.It will creatively put forward lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and form equivalence to better use the Static Equivalence,so as to avoid common mistakes in the legal translation, and these translation strategies are supposed to improve C-E translation practice of legal texts. |
