The author of this practice report analyzes and summaries the E-C translation process of the psychology academic book “Action Control: From Cognition to Behavior”(excerpts)under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.This book mainly introduces the latest research achievements and empirical research methods adopted by foreign psychologists in different fields.In addition,it also explores the correlation between cognition and behavior.Based on the detailed analysis of the source text types,language features and writing styles,it is known that the main function of the source text is informative function,the complete and accurate delivery of its contents is accordingly the primary concern in the process of E-C translation.In order to make the translated version semantically coherent and logically clear,at the same time,to facilitate smooth understanding of target readers,different translation methods and techniques such as amplification,division and conversion are flexibly adopted during the translation process.The author of this report mainly analyzes the translation methods used to achieve the translation purpose and effect.Besides,the author of the report makes a brief introduction to the guiding role of functional equivalence theory in translating “Action Control: From Cognition to Behavior”,aiming to provide reference for the research into the translation of similar texts.In order to achieve research purpose,case study is adopted as the research method.The author of this practice report selects and analyzes some typical translation examples from lexical level,syntactic level and discourse level.Additionally,specific translation methods and techniques adopted under the guidance of functional equivalence are analyzed.Furthermore,the author of this report summaries the general translation methods suitable for such types of texts and proves the applicability of functional equivalence theory to the translation of psychology academic texts.
