This translation report is based on the E-C translation of Creative Teaching: English in the Early Years and Primary Classroom(excerpts),a book co-authored by Chris.Horner and Vicky Ryf.Through a detailed analysis of the whole translation process, this report aims at providing some humble suggestions for the future researchers and translators of this type of translation. This book is an academic work.In the translation of academic works, the top consideration in its translation is faithful, therefore,Nida’s theory of functional equivalence is chosen as the guidance. Before translation, the author has made adequate preparations, including selecting reference books, making translation plans, listing professional vocabulary, boning up educational knowledge and studying parallel texts. In the process of translation, the author mainly adopts case study to analyze from three levels, including vocabulary, syntax and discourse. After finishing the translation, the author conducts an evaluation of the quality of the translation.By analyzing and summarizing the problems encountered in translation practice, the author draws the following conclusions.First of all, while translating educational texts, the translator must read professional books on education, understand relevant educational terms and the connotation of educational knowledge so as to render a more accurate translation.Secondly, the research proves that the theory of functional equivalence may serve as a good guideline in the translation of educational texts.Under this effective theory, the target language can faithfully convey the information of the source text. Finally, under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, amplification, omission, division and so on can be employed in the translation of words and sentences, while cohesion and coherence are very effective elements which should be seriously considered in discourse translation.
