As a sort of visual tool for knowledge analysis,mind map can solve the shortcomings of traditional teaching mode effectively.It can enhance people‘s abilities of understanding and creative thinking effectively by graphing with the collocation of keywords,pictures and colors.Therefore,it has been applied in many fields,particularly in the field of education.In recent years,mind map has been gradually popularized in China,and many scholars and experts have begun to study its application in the field of education.It is very important for students of senior high school to learn reading comprehension well,which can cause a direct effect on their grades.But teachers spent a great deal of time in explaining reading materials word by word,which didn‘t achieve remarkable effect.Moreover,most domestic researches on the combination of English reading teaching and mind map remain superficial.According to this phenomenon,this study applied mind map tool to the teaching of senior high school English narrative,exposition and argumentation respectively so as to explore whether mind map,as an assistant tool,can help students improve their reading interest and enhance their reading ability.Under the guidance of theory of brain science,constructivism and knowledge visualization theory,this study developed teaching designs of three common genres,that is,narrative,exposition and argumentation with mind map tools in senior high school English reading teaching.Two classes of senior one in Gushi Xiwang High School in Xinyang city,Henan Province were selected as research subjects for a six-month comparative study.The two tests before and after the experiment and pre-questionnaire for the two classes,as well as post-questionnaire survey on the experimental class show that the teaching of English reading based on mind map has significantly improved students‘ English reading ability and learning interest.At the same time,the results of the experiment also indicate that establishing diversified mind map analysis modes based on different article genres can provide practical samples for the follow-up related studies.
