The official language of Malaysia is Malay,but with the enhancement of China’s comprehensive strength in recent years,Malaysia has set off an upsurge of learning Chinese.Although the two language families have great differences in pragmatic rules,but both have quantifiers,and both occupy important positions.The number of Quantifiers in Chinese is large and the usage is complex,while the number of Quantifiers in Malay is limited and the usage is relatively simple.Therefore,for the elementary Chinese learners in Malaysia,quantifiers are still a difficulty in learning Chinese,and there are many errors in the process of acquiring quantifiers.The author is very lucky to be admitted as a volunteer Chinese teacher in 2020,and conducts online Chinese teaching for the elementary Chinese learners at the Confucius Institute University Malaysia Pahang.Therefore,this article takes the elementary Chinese learners at the Confucius Institute University Malaysia Pahang as the research object,and analyzes the errors of quantifiers they have learned.there are nine quantifiers in their textbooks,namely“Ge、Sui、Ben、Xie、Kuai、Ci、Gong jin、Jian、Zhang”,so this article mainly analyzes these nine quantifiers.This article introduces the Confucius Institute University Malaysia Pahang and its teaching situation.Which focuses on the describing the learning situation of elementary Chinese learners,and describing the inclusion of these nine quantifiers in the textbooks "Huayu 1" and "Huayu 2".This article summarizes the characteristics and the cause of errors by sorting out the results of the questionnaire and the natural corpus of the elementary Chinese learners at the Confucius Institute University Malaysia Pahang,finally,this article puts forward corresponding teaching suggestions from the perspective of teachers and students.First of all,Chinese teachers should strengthen the comparison between Chinese and Malay quantifiers in the teaching process,to help students reduce the negative transfer of mother tongue;at the same time,they should enrich the teaching methods of quantifiers in the classroom,to stimulate students’ interest in learning quantifiers.Secondly,the student should actively improve their enthusiasm,and pay attention to the combination of learning and thinking;at the same,the student should increase the output of quantifiers,to deepen the understanding of the quantifiers,and improve the efficiency of learning Chinese.
