This report is based on an English-Chinese translation practice of a social science text,and the translation material is selected from Chapter 8,“Bureaucratic Control: No.1.1 Policy”,in the Contested Terrain: The Transformation of the Workplace in the Twentieth Century.In this chapter,examples of some large enterprises are given to introduce the bureaucratic control system in the workplace and the operation of No.1.1 Policy.This chapter illustrates how the process of conflict and control in the workplace shaped the way of organization and management.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,this practice report analyzes how to use specific translation techniques to deal with the key points and difficulties encountered in the process of translation by giving examples.This translation practice can help the translator to increase the translation experience of social science texts and make the translator more proficient in the application of translation theories and techniques.This practice report includes four chapters.In chapter 1,the translation task is described from the source of the task,the main content of the task,and the significance of the task.In chapter 2,the translation process is described.The translation process includes three stages:pre-translation preparations,in-translation processing,and post-translation proofreading and summary.In chapter 3,case analysis is made up of two parts.In the first part,the application of main translation techniques in the process of translation,is analyzed.In the second part,some errors that are easy to occur in the process of translation are summarized.And the solutions to errors are offered under the guidance of the communicative translation theory.In the last chapter,each stage of this translation practice is summarized and evaluated,the problems still existing in the practice are summed up,and the suggestions on further improvement are put forward.Through this practice,the translator summarized some key points in the translation of social science texts,which can makes translators more proficient in the translation of social science texts.
