A Study On The Interpretation And Annotation Of The Maharatnakuta-Buddha’s Discourses On The Birth Of A Child For Ananda

Maharatnakuta are important text in the Baojibu,one of the five major divisions of Mahayana Buddhism,which covers a wide range of areas and haras far-reaching influence.Therefore,Maharatnakuta was included in the six requests for Buddhist scriptures from the Song Dynasty to Xixia,and was translated into Tangut Maharatnakuta Sutra.And the Tangut Maharatnakuta has the largest number and can be pieced together to produce the complete Tangut Maharatnakuta Buddhism.The Tangut Buddha’s Discourses on the Birth of a Child for Ananda is one of the thirteen sutras in the Maharatnakuta,which has not been comprehensively and systematically studied.Therefore,this paper focused on the preliminary interpretation of the Tangut Maharatnakuta-Buddha’s Discourses on the Birth of a Child for Ananda.Firstly,a brief introduction to the translator and authorship of the Chinese version of the Maharatnakuta was given,followed by a brief overview of the other extant Chinese version of the Buddha’s Discourses on the Birth of a Child for Ananda.This part was ended with a brief introduction to the current reservation of the Tangut translation of the Maharatnakuta and the proofreading time of this volume.The second part elaborated on the interpretation of this volume in Tangut,which constitutes the major part of the paper,from four perspectives: the inputting of the Tangut text,the Chinese translation,the Chinese text draft,and the annotations.First of all,a word-by-word Tangut-Chinese collation of this volume was conducted,by which the differences between the Tangut version and the Chinese text were identified and annotated with the annotation encompassing the special Tangut words,Tangut grammar,Buddhist terms,Buddhist names,and errors in the text.The last section is a summary of the translation characteristics of the Tangut scriptures in this volume.It began with an analysis and summary of the translation methods and features at the lexical and syntactical level in the Tangut text of this volume.And then there is a summary of the translation features of the Buddhist terms in the Tangut text of this volume.Lastly,this paper presented a review and correction of the errors and omissions in the Tangut text of this volume.
