| As the core content of conceptual metaphor theory,"cross-domain mapping" is a process that one object reflects another object from the perspective of conceptual metaphor theory in cognitive linguistics, that is,the process of "source domain" reflecting "target domain".In Chinese-English interpretation, interpreters will encounter a lot of abstract expressions, which need to contact the objective reality to understand those words,so as to convey the speaker’s intention to the target audience more accurately.Political and diplomatic discourse usually contains a large number of metaphors,so metaphorical interpretation is a challenge for interpreters.Under the guidance of the theory of conceptual metaphor, this thesis makes a comparative analysis of the interpretation between the press conference interpreter and thesis interpretation participants(the team of students majoring in interpretation)organized in this research, taking the Chinese-English interpretation of Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s press conference in 2020 as the reference corpus. This thesis attempts to explore and answer mainly three questions:(1)What kinds of conceptual metaphors will be met by interpreters in Chinese-English interpretation?(2)What are the differences between the press conference interpreter and thesis interpretation participants on the use of interpreting strategies to interpret conceptual metaphors?(3)What are the factors that influence interpreters to chose interpreting strategies and the implications for the interpreting practice and teaching? This thesis comes to the conclusion:(1)Interpreters mainly encounter three kinds of conceptual metaphors in Chinese-English interpretation which includes structural metaphors, orientational metaphors and ontological metaphors.(2)By comparing the interpretation between the press conference interpreter and thesis interpretation participants,it can be found that the press conference interpreter can flexibly apply literal translation and free translation, while practical interpreters use literal translation in most cases.(3)This thesis holds that interpreters should pay attention to accumulating the practice of metaphor interpretation and use interpretation strategies more flexibly in different contexts,so as to improve the accuracy of interpretation. |
