Metaphors have always been a unique kind of linguistic phenomena and through the studies of many scholars,it is gradually recognized that metaphor is not only a linguistic expression.The cognitive linguists argue that metaphor is a way for all of us to understand the world.As metaphor is so pervasive in daily life,interpreters must be equipped with certain skills to complete the interpreting task of metaphors.So,the author picks out the press conference held by the Premier Li in Two Sessions 2018 and carried out an experiment from the perspective of conceptual metaphor theory.The process of the experiment is: firstly,the author invited 14 student interpreters and divided them into two groups,each of them with 7 students.The first group received a certain amount of training on conceptual metaphor theory.Then,all the students are asked to do the interpreting,which are recorded,based on the materials the author extracted from the conference.Next,the author transcribed the recordings and carried out a comparative analysis of the all the interpreters' output from the perspective of conceptual metaphor theory and tries to answer questions on the mapping systems and interpreting strategies of interpreting learners.The conclusions of the report are: the mapping systems of students with conceptual metaphor training are more accurate and conceptual metaphor theory can help interpreters establish appropriate mapping system and thus improve their interpretation output.Basing on specific context,the interpreters can choose from literal translation,liberal translation and omission.Interpreting learners without conceptual metaphor training tend to use omission more frequently.Basing on these conclusions,the report put forward following suggestions: interpreting learners should learn about the conceptual metaphor theory and build up their cultural background knowledge and choose interpreting strategies carefully when facing metaphors.
