Investigation And Research On Ancient Buildings Of Baita Mountain In Lanzhou

Baita Mountain is located on the north bank of the Yellow River in Chengguan District,Lanzhou City.It was rebuilt by Liu Yongcheng in the 13 th year of Zhengtong period under the reign of Emperor Zhu Qizhen in the Ming Dynasty(1448 AD).In the20 th year of Wanli period under the region of Emperor Zhu Yijun(1592 AD),the pattern of "Di Tian Tai" was formed.During the reigns of Emperor Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty,the society of Lanzhou was tending towards stability.In order to meet the faith needs of the people,the buildings in Baita Mountain were rapidly expanded and developed with the support of the provincial governor Chuoqi.During the period of the Republic of China,soldiers are stationed in Baita Mountain all year round,so those buildings lost their religious functions gradually,becaming barren.It was not until Ren Zhenying re-planned buildings there in 1958 that Baita Mountain returned to its former glory.The layout and scale of ancient buildings in Baita Mountain today is related to the following four aspects: Geography theory,temple location selection factors,its location relationship with Lanzhou city and the construction of the pontoon bridge and the iron bridge under the mountain.Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the ancient buildings in Baita Mountain has always been constructed with the center of the Baita(White pagoda),which highlights the importance of the pagoda.Because of the prevailing trend of thought of "the unity of three religions" at that time,Baita Mountain brought together the saints of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism in a very tolerant way,and finally formed a unique space for belief in Lanzhou City.The ancient buildings of Baita Mountain also left many inscriptions,poems,couplets,rich brick carvings and color paintings,which have carried various folk activities.These materials and folk activities embodies the history and inheritance of Baita Mountain indirectly,highlighting the historical value,literary value,artistic value and social value of the ancient buildings.The ancient building complex of Baita Mountain in Lanzhou has a history of more than 500 years since it was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty.As the core landmark of Lanzhou,it witnesses multi-ethnic and multi-cultural exchange and integration,becoming an important cultural heritage of Lanzhou.The investigation and research on the ancient buildings of Baita Mountain will be a great help in digging deeper into its cultural connotation and discovering the existing problems of the ancient buildings,thus to provide more professional suggestions for protecting and developing the ancient buildings of Baita Mountain in a better way.
