| From July to October 2019,the author participated in the equipment installation of the Sun Moon Pavilion at the Huaxia Cultural Exhibition Center in Xigu District,Lanzhou as an interpreter.In this report,the interpretation of handover process between ECA2,a French company that was employed for the equipment installation,and the client,Xi Rong Cultural Tourism Development,was analyzed based on the Interpretive Theory on Translation putting forward by Danica Seleskovitch and her student Marianne Lederer.This report briefly introduces the background and the significance of this task,its features are also analyzed.The author focuses on case analysis to discuss problems and solutions in this task.Problems in the comprehension stage are unfamiliar technical terms and abbreviations,and lack of background information.These problems could be solved by getting familiar with the working environment and consulting experts on site,but full preparation is more important and should be implemented as a long term strategy.Deverbalizing long and complicated sentences and redundancy is also a problem.Corresponding solutions include getting familiar with the speaker and the audience,paying attention to the whole context instead of one specific word.Problems in the expression stage are the overuse of fillers and misuse of personal pronouns,the author presents solutions that interpreters should monitor their expression and ensure the consistency of personal pronouns.In the end,the author summarizes the features of construction interpreting,reflects her performance and presents suggestions for the future improvement.After this interpreting practice,the author proposes that except for bilingual skills,interpreters need to expand their encyclopedic knowledge.Besides,short-term memory and great mindset is of great importance.This report is underpinned by personal experience,the author hopes that this report will not only serve as a reference for other master’s report on interpretation practice,but also provide advice for those who would like to engage in interpretation. |
