A Report On Interpretation Of Guiding An Exhibition Hall From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

Since the start of China’s reform and opening up over 40 years ago,cities have witnessed comprehensive and rapid development of economy and culture.Governments at all levels pay more and more attention to the construction of urban civilization,in which urban planning and exhibition has made rapid progress,making urban planning and exhibition hall an indispensable part of social and urban construction.To a large extent,the quality of the introduction to urban planning exhibition hall determines the visitors’ satisfaction with the hall,and affects the image of the city.According to the interpreter’s investigation,interpreting practices of introduction to an exhibition hall have been relatively neglected.As one of the mainstream theories for the study of interpretation,Interpretive Theory is also less applied to the interpretation process in guided tours.This paper analyses the consecutive interpretation process in a guided tour of international representatives who participated in the 16 th Global University Network(N.E.W.S)Conference to Yichang Urban Planning Exhibition Hall in November 2019.By conveying the introduction to the exhibition hall,the interpreter discusses the interpretation problem of interpretation at the textual level,explanation of proper nouns,conveying the logic of the language,and being in line with the expression habits of the target language.The interpreter adopts Interpretive Theory to address these problems and summarize some interpreting methods,including simplification,explanation of background knowledge,amplification for syntactic construction,sentence reorganization,the change of the voices.At the same time,this paper provides a good English version of introduction to Yichang Urban Planning Exhibition Hall,which helps to enhance the positive impression of international visitors on the city.
