Though homework design and research in primary school have gradually attracted many scholars and teachers’ attention in recent years,the study of stratified assignment design related to pupil’s individual differences is still not sufficient and extensive.At present,there are still many problems for English assignment design in primary school especially in rural areas.English stratified assignment design has not received much attention and is not widely practiced in rural areas.This thesis aims to explore how to design and implement English stratified assignment in primary school in rural areas,and to explore the role of English stratified assignment in changing pupils’ English learning attitudes and improving English academic achievement.This thesis is based on Constructivism theory,theory of Multiple Intelligence and Zone of Proximal Development theory.After collecting and widely reading foreign and domestic literature on stratified teaching,stratified assignment and English stratified assignment design in primary school,some previous theories and practices about stratified homework design were adopted in this thesis.In this thesis,43 students of grade five in two classes in Jingyuan County,Baiyin city,were chosen as subjects in this research lasting for 12 weeks.This thesis first used the questionnaire to know about students’ attitudes toward English stratified assignment,and to explore how to design and implement English stratified assignment in primary school in rural areas.Then the experiment was carried out to test the effects of English stratified assignment on students’ English academic achievement.SPSS22.0 was used for the statistic analysis of the measurement data.This research experiment found English stratified assignment significantly improved Group B(intermediate level)and Group C(basic level)students’ English academic performance,while English stratified assignment didn’t significantly improve Group A(high level)students’ English academic performance.After the research experiment,the author conducted the same questionnaire and an open interview to investigate whether students’ attitudes toward English stratified assignment change.The results showed students changed their attitudes toward English stratified assignment,which was helpful to stimulate students’ enthusiasm and autonomy in English learning.It is hoped the thesis can enlighten English teachers and basic education workers in primary school in rural areas and provide significance references and guidance in making English assignment be an effective supplement to English classroom teaching,promoting the improvement of primary school students’ English learning achievement and changing their English learning attitudes in rural areas. |
