| From the movie Love In A Fallen City in 1984 to the upcoming Love After Love,Eileen Chang has six novels have been adapted for film work,exquisite and unique female perspective in the novels,the subjective experience of time and space,the connotation of heavy and complicated with rich imagery and desolate,unique in the Chinese modern literature,both the director and the audience has a lasting appeal,also must face the challenge of the cinematic adaptation.From the five films that have been adapted so far,the success of film adaptation of Eileen Chang’s novels does not lie in the rigid restoration of the plots of the original works,but in the echo of the deep meaning and spiritual core of the original works.Based on this request,this paper studies how adapted films interpret the inner meaning of Eileen Chang’s novels from three aspects of theme,style and image.The introduction part first clarifies the relationship between the film and literature,the "loyalty" and "creation" of the adapted film to the original novel,and clarifies that the "loyalty" of the film to the original novel focuses on the echo of the spiritual implication.The first chapter analyzes the interpretation of the theme of Eileen Chang’s novels by adapted films and the phenomenon of meaning loss and meaning extension in the process of adaptation,focusing on the expression of the living conditions and inner world of women by adapted films.The second chapter analyzes the continuation of the style of the original work in the adapted film.Taking the geographical space,clothes and sounds in the novel and the film as examples,it studies how the film inherits the subjective time and space experience of Eileen Chang and her unique personal perspective,thus forming the film style that combines the inside information of the original work with the characteristics of the director’s creation.The third chapter,centering on the image,studies how to present the single image and compound image in the original work in the adapted film,so as to further create the unique film image.The fourth chapter in the movie Lust&Caution,for example,the comprehensive analysis of how the movie from the theme,style,image in three aspects,interpretation and recreates the deep connotation of the original work and spirit.In both novels and films,in addition to the main plot framework,there are also important spiritual themes,style features and images embedded in the text.The film and television adaptation of Eileen Chang’s novels should not only be a replay of the plot,but also pay more attention to the interpretation and interpretation of the inner meaning of the novels. |
