With the teaching principle of "interpret intensively,ensure plenty of practice" being generally advocated today,the content arrangement of exercises section in textbooks determines the quality and effectiveness of class practicing to a certain extent.The in-depth analysis and systematic investigation of existing textbooks’ exercises will help a lot to discover their advantages and disadvantages.At the same time,language teaching has the special purpose and requirement of "cultivating learners’ communicative competence".Therefore,the practicality of exercises in second language textbooks is also one of the most important indicators to measure the quality of its compilation.On this basis,this research takes the Chinese series textbooks "Easy Steps to Chinese" and the English series textbooks "Super Kids" as research objects,focusing on the investigation and analysis of their exercises’ setting and practicality,in order to study the differences in emphasis between Chinese and foreign language teaching materials on the setting of exercises,as well as its feasibility and practicality in the design and implementation in class-teaching.A quantitative analysis on the two sets of textbooks shows that the exercises in "Easy Steps to Chinese" are slightly too large in terms of quantity.In terms of question types,they are characterized by gradualness,diversity and randomness.The arrangement of cultural exploration is relatively reasonable,and the content is mainly Chinese culture.The arrangement of exercises’ quantity in "Super Kids" is relatively more scientific,and the arrangement of exercising types presents the characteristics of regularity,stability and modularity.It shows characteristics of all-inclusive,coexistence of Chinese and Western culture in terms of cultural exploration.In addition,practical research shows that the auxiliary effect of "Easy Steps to Chinese" on class practicing is mainly reflected in detailed introduction and exercise guidance,which can be summarized as "highly applicable",and is consciously enriched in quantity and form in aspect of communicative exercises.The supporting role in "Super Kids" for practice is concentrated on "high flexibility",and it pays attention to "single point refinement" in terms of communicative practice.Based on the results of comparative analysis,this research provides specific revision suggestions for the Chinese textbooks "Easy Steps to Chinese",including the amount of questions,the division of learning stages,the control of professional terms’ using,the scientific setting of questions,the creating of immersive language environment and the improvement of nationalization.Also suggestions in aspects of flexible using of teaching methods,practical teaching in pronunciation,grammar,vocabulary and cultural contents are provided for teachers who actually use this series of textbooks.
