This is a report on the translation of the conclusion part of Becoming Hebrew:The Creation of a Jewish National Culture in Ottoman Palestine(hearinafter referred to as Becoming Hebrew). This translation project is one of the projects from Center of Judaic and Chinese Studies of Sichuan International Studies University.Becoming Hebrew was written by Arieh Saposnik, and the conclusion part mainly summarizes the impact of rebuilding Hebrew culture in Palestine on the establishment of the state. As the source text is an informational text, the author uses Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the guiding theory of translation. The main difficulties in translating are Hebrew terms, abstract nouns, complex sentences,as well as “nation” and its derivatives.Translation methods such as extension and annotation are used to translate Hebrew terms;omission and conversion are used to guide the translation of abstract nouns;division and restructuring are adopted in the translation of complex sentences. The translator broadens her horizon and improves her translation ability in solving these difficulties.
