| The ST is the 8th chapter of Becoming Hebrew: The Creation of a Jewish national Culture in Ottoman Palestine,written by Arieh Saposnik who is the Associate Professor at Ben-Gurion University.Chapter 8 focuses on the history of how Zionists explore the way of defining the ethnic boundaries within and out of the Jewish nation,so as to set a solid foundation for the revival of the Jewish nation.In a broad sense,this project can not only attract someone who is interested in Israeli history,culture and its traditional language,but also is of great help for bilateral cultural communication.Besides,it can offer us some inspirations for rejuvenating our Chinese nation in dealing with other nations’ culture,and carrying forward Chinese traditional culture.According to the Text Typology of Peter Newmark,the ST is a typical informative text which aims at conveying facts based on numerous cultural and historical contexts.The translator chose communicative translation theory to guide the whole translation process to achieve faithfulness to the ST and readability of the TT.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the translator utilized transliteration,paraphrase and annotation to deal with culture-loaded words.Moreover,restructuring and amplification are used to clarify the logic and ambiguous terms in long sentences with complex structures. |
