This is a report on the translation of Global Governance and the Emergency of Global Institutions for the 21 st Century by Augusto Lopez-Claros,Maja Groff and Arthur Lyon Dah.Chapter 1 “The Challenges of the 21 st Century” is selected for this translation project,in which the authors expound on the urgency and necessity of global governance and subsequent bold and innovative suggestions for the emergency facing the human being.The project,therefore,seeks to remind the readers of the shortcomings of the present global governance and global institutions,and the urgency of the improvement of the global governance system.The source text is an academic work,where plenty of opinions of other scholars related to global governance are quoted,providing abundant information about social science.The translator,therefore,referred to some paratexts in order to appropriately comprehend social terms,cultural background and logical structures.Accordingly,the translator,under the principle of Skopos theory,adopted translation methods including annotation,addition and division to convey the text in line with the usual practice of target language and culture,contributing to a better understanding of target readers.
