| Vocabulary is an important part of language teaching and learning.For junior high school students,junior high school is the key period to lay the foundation of vocabulary.The teaching methods adopted by teachers play an important role in vocabulary teaching.Based on situated cognition theory and constructivism learning theory,this paper investigates the application of situational teaching method in junior high school English vocabulary teaching by means of questionnaire,classroom observation and interview.In the application,the author found some problems in teachers’ application and the reasons for these problems.This research is carried out in X Junior High School of Mudanjiang city.The main results are as follows:First,through the questionnaire survey,it is found that most teachers have more or less understanding of situational teaching method,and some teachers often use situational teaching method in lesson preparation and actual teaching,and this method is also welcomed by students,they think situational teaching method can improve their interest in learning.Second,there are the following problems when teachers use situational teaching method in vocabulary teaching: 1.The ways of creating situation are not rich enough.2.The effect of students’ group cooperation in classroom activities is not good,which leads to classroom disorder.3.Ninth grade teachers use situational teaching method in a single way and low frequency.4.Teachers’ positive evaluation of students in teaching activities is too much and repeated,and lack of correction of wrong expression.Third,the reasons for teachers’ problems in using situational teaching method in English vocabulary teaching are as follows: 1.Teachers’ limited ability and the need to save time to complete teaching tasks are the main reasons for the lack of rich situation creation methods.2.Ignoring the important role of teachers in group cooperation and students’ poor sense of cooperation are the main reasons for poor group cooperation.3.The main factors that directly affect the implementation of situational teaching method are the pressure of examination,the heavy task of teachers,the tight curriculum arrangement and more teaching content.4.Teachers’ misunderstanding of positive evaluation is the main reason for teachers’ excessive positive evaluation of students.This study provides a reference for the application of situational teaching method in junior high school English vocabulary teaching,so that teachers can use situational teaching method to enhance students’ interest in vocabulary learning. |
