| With the development of society,the demand for foreign language talents has increased,and China has also raised standards of foreign language talents.More and more emphasis has been put on foreign language teaching.Chinese Education Department proposes that the primary task of foreign language teaching is to improve language performance and competence,which are inseparable with vocabulary teaching.Nowadays,the aim of vocabulary teaching is to guide students to use words in specific situations reasonably more than simply to teach the meaning of words.At this background,the importance of vocabulary teaching methods is particularly prominent.Various linguistic schools have taken it very seriously and proposed relatively scientific vocabulary teaching methods,one of which is situational teaching approach(STA).STA was introduced to China at the end of 20 th century.Since then,it has played a decisive role on basic education stage.However,it still needs further exploration and study whether STA is also applicable to college education.The author chooses two parallel classes of non-English major from a community college in Xi’an for a one-semester vocabulary teaching experiment.By using situational teaching mode(STM)in experimental class,the author tries to explore the applicability of STM in a community college and whether it could improve students’ vocabulary learning methods as well as lexical output knowledge.Having analyzing and grouping the data after this experiment,the author draws the following conclusions: first of all,STM can improve students’ vocabulary learning methods;secondly,STM can develop students’ lexical output knowledge in top scores,but it is not evidently enough to show this mode can improve the lexical output knowledge of all students with different English foundation;finally,this paper suggests that teachers should use STM and combine various methods in college vocabulary teaching. |
