The original text of this translation report is David Martin’s Australian children’s novel Hughie, selected from Chapters 1 to 4.This book has not yet been translated into Chinese. The reason for choosing this paragraph is that the development and climax of the story are mainly reflected in the first half.Hughie is the protagonist in the article. He is a typical Australian aboriginal with dark skin and curly hair, and lives in a camp.He is also a representative of Australia’s diverse culture,in the process of growing up,Hughie constantly came into contact with the outside world and people with different skin colors, which caused his cognition to begin to change. The original text describes in detail what Hughie thinks as a child protagonist, and the changes after some things have been experienced. As a children’s novel, the language in the text is simple, the emotion is rich, and the plot is tortuous and interesting.During the translation process, the translator considers that the target reader is children, and their acceptance and understanding ability are very important. Therefore, when translating,it is more important to look at the problem from the perspective of children. As a translator, also needs to express it objectively and accurately. When translating, the translator carried out linguistic decorations and used some translation methods to make the article easy to read and understand.According to Nida’s classification of culture and the concept of“culture-loaded words” put forward by Xu Guozhang in 1988,in order to present the original style to the target readers to the maximum, the translator also consults materials and references for culturally-loaded words that appear in the text. The Internet and other channels have learned about the culture of the Australian aborigines. With a general understanding of the content of the source text, the translator has analyzed and expressed its culturally loaded words, roughly analyzing it from language, religion, ecology and society.
