A Report On The Interpreting Practice Of 2019 China-CEEC Mayors Forum

This report is based on the author’s escort interpreting practice.The 2019China-CEEC Mayors Forum was held in Shenyang from June 12^thto June 14^thof2019.Entrusted by School of Foreign Languages,Shenyang Normal University,the author had the honor to accompany the high-level mayor delegation to visit the Industrial Museum of China and provided escort interpreting service（Chinese-English interpreting）.The content of this interpreting practice is mainly about the development of Shenyang’s industry in social,cultural,and political aspects.The interpreter needs to be fully equipped with relevant knowledge of industry,industrial terminologies and related interpreting strategies.The Interpretive Theory believes that the role of language lies in conveying the message and the intention of the speaker rather than the linguistic form.The interpreting process can be divided into comprehension,deverbalization and reformulation,among which deverbalization plays a vital connecting role.The core principle of deverbalization is to convey the message and sense behind the language,and the ultimate task for interpreters is not to seek the equivalent words,but to transit the meaning and sense for communication.In this practice,three main difficulties have emerged in the stage of deverbalization,which are on language structure,semantics,and cultural differences respectively.In the stage of deverbalization in escort interpreting,the author adopts the following three strategies to eliminate these obstacles,which are integration and reorganization,simplification and addition,and explanation and paraphrasing.By adopting these strategies,the original meaning of the source text can be conveyed more accurately,and the barriers of language transmission can be eliminated,promoting a smooth escort interpreting performance.In addition,the author also makes reflections and suggestions on the deficiencies of the escort interpreting practice and report writing.
