A Report On Escort Interpreting For Africa Delegation In 2018 Brand Agriculture Development International Symposium

With the development of world economic globalization and the continuous improvement of China’s international status,China has participated in more and more international exchange activities and played more and more roles in international exchange,among which agriculture,as the basis for the existence and development of human society,is also the focus of international exchange.In this context,the 2018 Brand Agriculture Development International Symposium(hereinafter referred to as BADIS)was held in Pujiang,Chengdu,China as scheduled.This practice report is based on the 2018 BADIS.The author was employed by Chengdu Grouphorse Translation & Interpretation Co,Ltd to provide full-time escort interpreting services for 5 African delegations during the 2018 BADIS.Based on the author’s escort interpreting practice and guided by the interpretive theory,the report makes a comprehensive analysis and summary of this interpretation project.The author believes that an accurate understanding of the characteristics and requirements of interpreting tasks is of great significance to the completion of interpreting practical task.According to the characteristics of the interpretation service industry,pre-interpreting preparation generally includes theoretical preparation,background information preparation,psychological preparation,and environmental preparation.The author introduces them one by one in the paper,and emphatically introduces the theoretical preparation.The most important part of this report is chapter three,in which the author focuses on the application of the triangle model of interpretive theory to the three difficulties in the author’s interpretation process: interpretation of sentences with serious lack of cultural imageries between China and the west,interpretation of English with African accent,interpretation of a large number of digits,and she adopts interpretation skills such as addition,omission,transliteration,explanation and inference,with a successful completion of the interpretation task.The author believes that the interpretive theory has guided the interpretation practice well.Under the guidance of interpretive theory,the author has successfully solved the problems of interpretation of sentences with serious lack of cultural imageries between China and the west,interpretation of English with African accent and interpretation of a large number of digits in the process of interpretation.Clients affirmed and praised the author’s performance.As an interpreter,the author believes that pre-interpreting preparation is quite important,especially the background information preparation and the reviews of related theories.Meanwhile,only with unremitting accumulation of encyclopedic knowledge can interpreters deal with unfamiliar interpretation tasks.
