| Xinyang History and Culture Series: The Volume of Red Xinyang is the first red classic that comprehensively and systematically reflects the history of Xinyang new democratic revolution(1919-1949).The materials of this translation practice report are selected from Chapter 7,Section 2 of Xinyang History and Culture Series: The Volume of Red Xinyang, totaling more than 11000 words. This part mainly introduces that in 1947,Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping led the red army marching into the Dabie Mountains for thousands of miles, leading the war to the areas ruled by the Kuomintang, opening up the battlefield in the Central Plains, and speeding up the process of the Chinese people’s Liberation War.The translation materials have obvious historical and cultural characteristics. The translation of such texts is a purposeful cross-cultural communication. Therefore, the author uses skopos theory to translate the texts.First of all,the author analyzes the key and difficult points from three aspects: vocabulary, sentence and culture, such as professional nouns, long and complex sentences,culture-loaded words.Secondly,in view of the difficulties, the author chooses Hans Vermeer’s skopos theory as the theoretical guidance of this translation practice,so as to realize the transmission of the original text. Finally, the author analyzes specific cases and summarizes effective translation methods and skills, such as literal translation, transliteration, free translation, omission, conversion. The translation follows the skopos theory which includes skopos rule, coherence rule, and fidelity rule. And it embodies the theoretical requirements that skopos rule dominates and coherence rule takes precedence over fidelity rule,so that the target readers can obtain the reading experience close to the original readers to the greatest extent. The author translated the text based on skopos theory. So that the theory can guide the translation practice and the translation can enrich the theory. What’s more, the translation practice can provide some reference for the similar type of translation practice and introduce the history and culture of Xinyang. This practice report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the description of translation tasks, which describes the background of selected translation texts, the significance and practical value of this translation study, and summarizes the research status at home and abroad. The second chapter is an overview of translation theory, which introduces the theories adopted in this study, the main contents, and the guiding significance for this translation practice. The third chapter is a description of the translation process, including the preparation before translation, reading books, summarizing the problems in the process of translation, and post translation proofreading. The fourth chapter is the practical analysis of translation cases, which analyzes the key and difficult points in the process of translation from the perspective of vocabulary, sentence and culture.Through the analysis, the translator obtains the following translation methods and strategies: literal translation, amplification, omission, conversion, domestication and foreignization. The fifth chapter is the translation practice summary which includes the gains and shortcomings of this translation practice, and makes clear the direction of future efforts. |
