| English writing is an important part in English learning.New English Curriculum Standard(2017)emphasizes the importance of developing students’ listening,speaking,reading,viewing and writing skills.In some cases,writing can reveal a person’s English language application ability.Therefore,in senior high school English writing teaching,how to adopt effective teaching methods to help students improve their writing scores,writing initiative and writing interest are questions that first-line middle school English teachers need to consider deeply.In 2013,Professor Zhang Xuexin who comes from Fudan University proposed the “PAD Class” model.This teaching model contains three sessions,namely,presentation,assimilation and discussion.It reintegrates teachers,students,teaching content,teaching methods and other elements to form a complete and easy-to-operate local teaching model.Relevant researches have proved that the PAD Class Model can balance the teacher’s lecture and the student’s discussion,activate the classroom atmosphere,and improve the students’ writing ability.This research carried out a more systematic explanation and discussion on the PAD Class Model,and made some literature reviews related to writing and English writing teaching,using constructivism theory,cooperative learning theory and humanist theory as the theoretical basis.The author completed the study of applying the PAD Class Model to the English writing teaching in S Senior High School.In this study,106 students from two classes of the second grade of S Senior High School in Xining City,Qinghai Province were selected as the research subjects.These two classes were randomly divided into experiment class and control class,and a four-month teaching experiment was conducted in order to answer the following questions:(1)What is the current situation of English writing teaching in the S Senior High School in Xining?(2)How does the PAD Class Model affect students’ writing interest and initiative?(3)What effect does the PAD Class Model have on students’ English writing scores?The PAD Class model was used in EC in English writing teaching,and the traditional teaching model was adopted in CC in the English writing teaching.The experiment adopted three instruments: tests,questionnaires and interviews.The writing test statistics came from the two final exams.The students’ compositions were scored by the experienced teachers.After the data were collected,the SPSS 23.0software was used to analyze the test data.The interview was to randomly select 18 students in different score interval and 9 teachers who participated in the experiment.Questionnaires were used to know the students’ writing situation before and after the experiment and the effect of applying the PAD Class Model.The research indicates that: 1)Before the experiment,the writing teaching for senior high school students was teacher-centered.Students’ writing interest and writing initiative,and writing scores were relatively low.2)After the experiment,the average scores of the students in the EC were higher than that of the students in the CC.After using the PAD Class Model,the writing scores of most students in the experiment class has improved.3)After the experiment,the author found through interviews and questionnaires that the PAD Class Model is good to stimulate students’ writing interest and initiative.This shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the PAD Class Model in senior high school English writing teaching.This research applies the PAD Class Model to senior high school English writing teaching,and the research results have certain implications on senior high school English writing teaching.However,due to the small number of experiment samples,short experiment time and other factors,there are still some shortcomings of this research.For these reasons,some suggestions are put forward for the future study of PAD Class Model. |
