Action Research On “Project-based Learning” Model In English Writing Lesson In Senior High School

Writing has always played an important role in high school English course.However,many studies have found that there are still many problems in current high school English writing teaching.In recent years,project-based learning has gradually become a style of great interest in English teaching.In addition,domestic and overseas scholars have taken up large-scale researches on the combination of project-based learning and English writing,so as to promote the construction of efficient English writing lesson.The research object is students of class 24,grade two in a senior high school in Qinglong County,Qinhuangdao,Hebei Province.And this study applies “project-based learning” model to English writing lesson.Through the four-month action research,the author tries to answer the following two questions:1.What is the effect of “project-based learning” model on senior high school students’ interest and attitude towards English writing?2.Can writing teaching based on “project-based learning” model improve students’ English writing scores?By using the methods of literature research,questionnaire,interview and observation,the author investigates the application of “project-based learning” model,makes a teaching practice and then draws a conclusion through questionnaire results,interview contents,classroom observation and writing texts,as well as the longitudinal comparison of pre-test and post-test.The results show that:(1)The questionnaire survey and interviews show that“project-based learning” model can enhance students’ interest and confidence in English writing and their attitudes and views on writing have also changed.Through group activities,inter group evaluation and other forms,the boring learning atmosphere in traditional writing lesson can be eliminated and then it turns into an active one in class.“Project-based learning” model promotes the change of students from passive learning to active learning and also promotes the change of teachers’ role from class leader to instructor.(2)After the application of “project-based learning” model in writing lesson,students’ English writing scores have been improved.And their use of vocabulary,mastery of grammar,layout of articles and choice of writing content have also been improved.Besides,students also gradually form a good habit of English writing.And they are easier to use English thinking to ponder problems in the English situation created by teachers.To a certain extent,this study reflects advantages of “project-based learning”model in senior high school English writing lesson.It can provide reference for teachers to deepen this model of writing teaching in the future so as to improve the efficiency of English writing lesson and then improve students’ English writing skills.
