Project-based learning,which stresses the cultivation of students’ ability of cooperation and independent learning,has become a hot topic in the field of education as result of the new curricular standards.Project-based learning involves investigating complicated,real-world issues as well as carefully planning,creating,and carrying out project activities.With its problem-driven,autonomous,and authentic qualities,it may foster students’ cooperative learning awareness,meet the goal of comprehensive language use,increase the effectiveness of English writing classes,and enhance high school students’ English writing abilities.In this study,88 students from two classes of senior two in a high school in Chengdu,Sichuan Province were selected as research participants,and the project-based learning model was applied to the English writing class in high school for 16 weeks.The following two questions will be answered:(1)How does project-based learning mode affect students’ writing attitude and writing interest?(2)How can project-based learning mode improve high school students’ English writing competence?The author adopted a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods,and conducts teaching experiments using the questionnaire survey,interviews and pre-test and post-test.At first,the experimental class used project-based learning mode for English writing teaching,while the control class still used the traditional PPP teaching method for writing teaching.Then,the writing competence of students in the two classes before and after the experiment was recorded to observe the changes.Finally,through the questionnaire survey and interview of students in the experimental class,the author can understand their interest in English writing and the change in their attitude.SPSS27.0 was used to analyze the data of pre-test and post-test results to conclude.The results show that the application of project-based learning mode in English writing teaching can significantly improve students’ interest,learning attitude and academic competence.From the results of the questionnaire and interview,it seems that project-based learning mode can improve students’ interest in English writing,and students have a more positive attitude toward writing.Group activities,task research,multiple evaluation and other forms make the traditional boring writing class interesting.In this process,the higher participation of students in the class made the classroom atmosphere stronger.According to the results of the questionnaire and interview,combined with the pre-test and post-test results of students,it turned out that students’ writing competence has been significantly improved after using project-based learning mode,including their vocabulary,mastery of sentence patterns and grammatical expression.To increase the effectiveness of English writing classes and assist students in raising their English writing proficiency,this study offers a novel proposal for high school English writing instruction.Also,it serves as a resource for educators who wish to develop this mode into English writing in the future.
