Report On E-C Translation Of Journalism Writings In Botswana Women Write

“The Belt and Road” has been widely adopted in recent years.With the concept of“globalization” and “the community of a shared destiny”,the political,economic and cultural exchanges between China and Africa have been greatly deepened.As a bridge of communication,journalism is indispensable and journalistic translation has become an important medium connecting China and Africa.Botswana Women Write is Botswana’s first comprehensive collection by female writers,the translation and study of which is one of the sub projects of the 2019 national social science major fund project “History of African Literature in English”.This project deals with the frontier academic field in China,so there are many difficulties related to Botswana’s language,culture,history,law,religion and so on in the process of translation.On the basis of reading the source text,this paper makes a background study of the place where the news reports had happened.It focuses on the background knowledge of Botswana’s national conditions,language system and religious belief,analyzes the rhetorical features,the use of legal English and the hybridity of English and Setswana,and then puts forward the solutions to the translation problems from three aspects,including vocabulary,figure of speech and discourse.The problems include how to translate people’s names,geographic names,organizations,culture loaded words,legal words,slangs and allusion,cohesion and coherence,etc.The purpose of this paper is to convey the current situation of women and other prominent social problems in Botswana,and also to analyze the translation in the context of diversified cultures in Africa through the translation of women’s writings,so as to provide reference for relevant translation practice and cultural studies in the future.
