Chinese characters are seen to be one of the difficulties for foreigners to learn Chinese,and a lot of teachers.Researchers pay great attention on how to carry out Chinese characters teaching effectively.Chinese characters learning includes two aspects: recognizing and writing,in which recognition is the foundation.However,in previous studies,Chinese character writing bias accounts for a large proportion,and the research on Chinese character recognition is relatively weak.This passage explores South Asia primary foreign students to recognize Chinese characters,we use quantitative method to design three experiments,including recognize Chinese characters phonetics,meanings and patterns.South Asia primary foreign students in Southeast University is used as experiment subject.SPSS is the tool we used for analyzing result and the errors appeared is being counted and classified.Otherwise,this article will compare the experiment result with other experiments to analyze the traits of South Asia primary foreign students in recognizing Chinese characters.We have following findings: 1.The level of Chinese characters is the main factor of influencing South Asia elementary students recognizing characters,the lower the level of Chinese characters,the better of the recognition.2.South Asia primary foreign students have initial awareness of the ability of pictophonetic characters phonetic capability,but it also has some limitation.The knowledge about character’s meaning needs improving.3.Language environment play little role in recognizing character pronunciation,while it has great influence in recognizing literal meaning.4.South Asia primary foreign student command little knowledge about character pattern,on the contrary,they are good at learning pronunciation and pattern.5.Primary students are used to avoid using unfamiliar Chinese characters.By contrastive analyze,this article finally gives four teaching suggestions upon South Asia primary foreign students’ words cognitive ability.We hope we can give some reference to the teaching of Chinese characters in the primary stage.
