The "Mandate of Heaven" has existed as the dominant concept in the traditional Chinese political field for more than two thousand years.The "Mandate of Heaven",as the deep cultural structure in the Chinese political field,should not have been changed for the functional requirements imposed by the practical environment subversion.But at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China,the traumatic narrative brought by the Sino-Japanese War and Jiu Wang Tu Qiang appeal for salvation triggered a series of historical events,with the widespread dissemination of "Theory of Natural Selection",the evolutionary ideas contained therein link the functionality and legitimacy of the system,and eventually lead to the collapse of the monarchy based on the " Mandate of Heaven ",this culture structure also collapsed.This collapse of the "Mandate of Heaven" embodies the characteristic that cultural change precedes changes in social structure,and highlights the autonomy of culture relative to social structure in the change.In the course of the change of "Mandate of Heaven",it is constantly affected by the accidental factors existing in the practical environment,which makes the process of change show an unpredictable aspect.This article adopts the strong cultural paradigm in cultural sociology and the perspective of combining culture and practice in anthropology,and integrates them into a "cultural-practice" research perspective.By combining text analysis and event analysis,a diachronic analysis of the collapse process of "Mandate of Heaven" at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic.On the one hand,it presents its inherent autonomy as a cultural concept in change,on the other hand,it reveals how the cultural structure is affected by the inevitable accidental factors in the change of the complex practical environment. |
