| The source text of the translation practice is selected from the book Small Business Management.The authors are internationally renowned entrepreneurs Tim Mazzarol and Sophie Reboud.This book attempts to describe various problems encountered by small and medium-sized enterprises in their operations,aiming to provide specific strategies for solving these problems.The translator chose part of the tenth chapter for translating,which mainly talks about the problem that all companies cannot avoid,business financing.In this chapter,the author aims to convey the relevant concepts and information of business management to readers.From the perspective of text type,it is an informative text,which focuses on making readers grasp the information.Newmark’s communicative translation theory emphasizes the effective transmission of information,and it is meaningful to guide informative texts.The translator tries to apply communicative translation theory to the business texts translation and has gained a lot.To achieve the effect of information transmission,the translator applied strategies such as semantic amplification,semantic choosing,conversion of part of speech,addition,omission,division and construction.According to communicative translation theory,the translator has tackled various barriers in business text translation.This translation practice report is divided into five parts: background introduction,literature review,translation process,case analysis,and conclusions.The first part is project background,which includes introduction,purpose and significance,and the features of the source text;the second part is the literature review,which introduces the translation studies of business texts and Newmark’s communicative translation theory;next part is translation process,mainly introducing the preparations made by the translator before,during and after translation;the fourth part is case analysis,which is also the most important part of this report.It enumerates problems at the lexical and syntactic level,and through many cases,analyzes the strategies used in translation.At lexical level,strategies includes semantic amplification,semantic choosing,conversion of part of speech,while at syntactic level,addition,omission,division and construction are the primary skills.The last part is a conclusion,summarizing the findings and limitations through this translation practice.In the practice,the translator finds that Newmark’s communicative translation theory can be a guidance for the translation of business texts,and the effect is remarkable.Under the direction of this theory,the translator has managed the problems in the translation process.The translation is characterized by high readability,fluency and reader orientation.The author of this paper hopes that more translators could get some enlightenment for translating the business text through this translation report. |
