China encourages couples to have second children. In 2016,Chinese families entered the new era of two children in one family. The firstborn children face a new fact: they have to share parents’ love with their siblings rather than monopolize all love, which is a great challenge for the firstborn. It is necessary to explore the process of the relationship between the two children before and after the birth, the relationship between the elder children and their siblings, and understand the elements of the improvement of the sibling relationship,to provide a reference for the psychological intervention of the two-children families under the new policy.Using the method of interview,6 families were selected as the research object through the network and the primary and secondary school, and the semi structured interview was carried out.The age of the parents is between 27 and 45 years, and the age of the firstborn children is 4 to 16 years, including 3 boys and 3 girls. The age of the siblings is 6 to 12 months,3 boys and 3 girls. The results are as follows:(1)The relationship between firstborn and siblings can be divided into four stages, such as rejection, softening, adaptation and acceptance, from mothers’ pregnancy to their great relationship.(2)Parents play an important role in the improvement of sibling relationships, which includes the parents’ attention, understanding and support to the firstborn, the parents consciously promote the active interaction among siblings. At the same time, the participation of other relatives in the family also plays a role.In the transitional stage, the family is in a timely and healthy cycle and reenters a new state of balance.(3)The improvement of the sibling relationship is related to the close relationship of the peer, including the intimate cousin relationship and the peer relationship in the school. The feelings and experiences of this intimate relationship have a positive impact on the better acceptance of the siblings by the firstborn and the establishment of a more harmonious relationship with their siblings.(4)the change of sibling relationships is influenced by Chinese unique policy and culture. The loss of the status of the only child and the sub-mono-children will increase the difficulty of establishing a harmonious sibling relationship.Attention should be paid to the firstborn children’s responses to the birth of two children and after birth, creating equal family atmosphere for their children, establishing a support system of family, school and society, promoting cooperation among different systems,to promote the relationship between firstborn and their siblings as soon as possible.
