With the implementation of the two-child policy,a number of families have welcomed the two-child life. The first-born children are also experiencing the change from being the only child in the family to having a sibling. This new family member will pose a change in the living environment of the first child, which will have an impact on the child’s behavior,emotion,parent-child interaction and other aspects. Therefore,in this research I selected a sample of 60 aged 4-5 first-born children and their families from four public kindergartens in Shanghai(a total of nine division)as the research object. The social adaptions of these first-born children before and after the second child was born were being observed and analyzed. These social adaptions include seven dimensions: emotional well-being,sociability,internalizing problems, aggressive attitude and adaptation, learning problems, and schooling). The parent-child relationships were also being observed, which contain the levels of intimacy, conflicts and dependence. At the same time,62 children who are the only child and do not have any siblings were randomly selected as the control group for comparison,to analyze the influence of sibling birth on the social adaptation of first-born children and the regulating effect of parent-child relationship. The research conclusions are as follows:1.Sibling birth has both positive and negative effects on the social adaptation of first-born children. It can be seen that external emotional problems, internalization problems, school attitude, sociability and ore-birth differences of the first-born children within 6 months after the birth of Barber were all evident.Compared with the same period, the children without siblings, there were significant differences in external emotional problems, internalization problems, school attitudes, aggression and sociability.Among them, external emotional problems, internalization problems, school attitudes and attacks showed negative effects, while sociability showed positive effects.2.Sibling birth and parent-child relationship have an interactive effect on the social adaptation of 4-5 year old children, and parent-child relationship is the regulating variable between sibling birth and infant social adaptation. As the parent-child relationship varies in different dimensions, the predictive power of sibling birth on the social adaptation of children is also different. In the parent-child relationship with high conflict, there was a positive prediction of externalizing emotional problems and aggression after the birth of siblings. In the parent-child relationship with high degree of intimacy, the sociability of siblings was positively predicted after birth. The parent-child relationship with high dependency has positive predictive effect on internalization and negative predictive effect on school attitude after birth.
