According to the newly-promulgated standard of English for general senior high schools in the Ministry of Education,the training objective of English courses should be to develop students’ comprehensive language application ability as the core.Writing is an important indicator to test the comprehensive use of language.The erroneous use of vocabulary is a major problem for Chinese students in English writing.In order to find out the causes and characteristics of lexical errors in written expressions of students,this study collected 400 high school students’ essays and tried to learn from two Discuss in aspects:(1)What are the main vocabulary errors in high school students’ composition?(2)What are the main causes of vocabulary errors?(3)What are the teaching strategies for vocabulary errors in student writing?This study analyzes the misuse of vocabulary in English writing by domestic high school students by sorting out and summarizing relevant research on vocabulary errors and vocabulary teaching,using quantitative research methods and based on the James vocabulary error classification.The research results show that the types of vocabulary errors in high school students’ writing mainly include miswriting of letters,wrong selection of forms,mismatch of parts of speech,and wrong selection of synonyms.The main types of misspelled letters are omission,addition,wrong selection of letters,misalignment,and confusion.The main reasons for such errors in students’ written expressions are: inaccurate pronunciation of words,incorrect application of rules,and the influence of two different spelling methods in the United Kingdom and the United States.The main types of wrong selected forms are: suffixes,prefixes,vowels and consonants are similar.The main reason for students to make wrong choices is that it is difficult for students to distinguish between words with similar forms and pronunciations and students’ confusion about vowels.The main types of part-of-speech errors are: verb + noun mix,noun + verb mix,adjective + noun mix,and noun + noun mix.There are several possible reasons for such errors in student writing: inaccurate knowledge of part-of-speech knowledge and the impact of not strictly distinguishing parts of speech in Chinese,and excessive use of some lexical rules.The main types of synonym selection errors are: mixed use of synonyms with different collocation methods and misuse of synonyms with similar but not identical meanings.The main reason for students to make such mistakes is that students have incomplete grasp of some expression methods and the specific context of vocabulary.After summing up,there are several reasons for vocabulary errors in high school students’ English writing: misunderstandings in vocabulary learning concepts;the split between vocabulary spelling and pronunciation;the impact of negative Chinese transfer;and the interference of English and Chinese cultural differences.In response to these problems,this article suggests that teachers should constantly change the teaching method according to the actual situation of students’ vocabulary learning.They should pay attention to combining the sound,form and meaning of vocabulary and present the vocabulary in the context;reduce the negative transfer of Chinese;in vocabulary teaching Infiltrate cultural awareness;be good at using associative methods for vocabulary learning.
