This report is based on the author’s consecutive interpreting(from March to September 2019)for the Transfer of Operatorship(TOO)phase in Chuandongbei(CDB)Natural Gas Project.CDB Project is the largest onshore gas cooperation project and the first high sour gas cooperation project of China National Petroleum Corporation(CNPC)co-operating with Chevron, which was the operator from 2007 to 2019.In 2017,in order to improve the efficiency of the project, the senior management of Petro China and Chevron decided to transfer the operatorship to Petro China, and the transfer was officially completed in October 2019.Based on the analysis of the difficulties and problems encountered by the author in the interpreting, this report gives an introduction to how the author solved those problems under the guidance of Translator’s Subjectivity theory.“Translator’s Subjectivity” emphasizes the importance of translator’s subjectivity and the value of translator as a critical role in translation. In a broad sense, the subjects of the process of translation are the original author, the translator and the reader, while they refer to the translators in a narrow sense. This report adopts the latter point of view.In interpreting,as interpreters are influenced by many factors such as their language abilities, personal qualities, aesthetic standards plus the characteristics of interpreting, they tend to embody their subjectivities in the process of interpretation unconsciously. On the premise of respecting the source information, interpreters should give play to their subjective initiative properly to promote a more smooth and efficient interpreting. This report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction to Chuandongbei Natural Gas Project, the basic situation of Transfer of Operatorship and requirements for interpreters. The second chapter discusses preparations for the task: familiarity with the work process, construction of relevant knowledge, preparation of professional vocabulary and the theoretical preparation. The third chapter analyzes the difficulties in the interpreting task, such as unclear logic in source language, much information in a long talk, frequent use of pronouns and information expressions and vague information.Coping tactics under the guidance of Translator’s Subjectivity are also introduced in this chapter, including reconstruction of source logic, rational distribution of energy, explicitation of pronouns and explanation based on background knowledge. The last chapter describes feedback from the clients, the author’s selfreflection, and some suggestions before interpreting and during interpreting, hoping they can be of some references for MTI students in their future practice.
