A Report On Consecutive Interpreting Task Of Maintenance Department In CDB Gas Project

This report based on the interpreter's consecutive interpreting service for Maintenance Department in Chuandongbei(CDB)Gas Project,which is one of the largest onshore gas projects developed in cooperation between Chevron and CNPC,with an outputs of 94.2 billion cubic meter gas per year.With the application of schemata,problems related to comprehension,note-taking,and expressions in the consecutive interpreting are solved.The term "schema",firstly put forward by Immanuel Kant and later enriched by Piaget,Bartlett etc.,is defined as a knowledge framework of given information or an abstract structure of past experience.Applying schemata to the analysis of consecutive interpreting shows that the interpreter's schema is built by utilizing the given information before interpreting.Correspondingly,decoding and prediction can be made according to the real situation.Meanwhile,the symbols are integrated and the key points are seized to improve validity of note-taking for the purpose of schema tuning and updating.Analysis of long and complicated sentences and fragmented information in interpreting are conducted to optimize expressions for schema restructuring.Three phases of schemata are analyzed in this report—schema building via accumulating expertise and cultural knowledge,schema tuning through enriching note-taking strategies,and schema restructuring by improving expressions,which sheds light on the guidance of the schema in consecutive interpreting.The background of this project is described in Chapter One.Interpreting preparation including theoretical and expertise are demonstrated in Chapter Two.Cases are analyzed by applying schemata in consecutive interpreting in Chapter Three.The interpreting is evaluated in Chapter Four.This report is supposed to serve as a reference for gas engineering interpreting.
