| This thesis defines the cultural identity of Chen Duxiu and Lu Xun as social/civilization critics.This is a type of writer whose purpose is social criticism and cultural criticism.It is a unique identity different from litterateur,thinkers or revolutionaries.This type of writer has unique thinking and writing characteristics,unique value appeal and social functions.Based on this cultural identity,this thesis attempts to regard most of Lu Xun and Chen Duxiu’s writing achievements,whether literary or non-literary(such as essays,diaries,letters,prefaces and postscripts),as the practice of social/civilization criticism.Focusing on the criticism texts of the two critics during the May Fourth Movement,combined with the growth background of the two and the whole social and historical background,this thesis attempts to compare the similarities and differences between the two critics in terms of the formation of their career ambition,the object and main content of the criticism,the ideological resources and the critical style and artistic methods.This article focuses on analyzing the different critical personalities and effectiveness of the two critics,and then explains the persistence and longevity of their social and cultural influence.The thesis consists of an introduction,a main body(divided into four chapters)and an epilogue.The introduction part mainly introduces the origin of the research and the purpose of selecting the topic,combs the comparative study of Chen Duxiu and Lu Xun and its shortcomings,and introduces the research ideas and main content of this thesis.The first chapter combs the formation and development of Chen Duxiu and Lu Xun’s career ambition in social/civilization criticism.The second chapter compares the main objects and content of the two criticisms,including comparisons in social and political criticism,comparisons in national character criticism,and comparison in traditional ideological and cultural criticism.The third chapter explores the two Critic’s ideological resources.In this chapter,the first section is the exploration of traditional ideological and cultural resources,including the influence of the Tongcheng School’s to Chen Duxiu,and the influence of the East Zhejiang School’s "emphasize history" tendency to Lu Xun;the second section explored the influence of Western thought resources to two critics,including the influence of French Enlightenmovement and the Great Revolution to Chen Duxiu and the influence of German individualism and Spiritual philosophy to Lu Xun.The fourth chapter is the comparison of the two critics’ art and style,mainly in terms of style selection,argumentation and rebuttal methods,and compare Chen Duxiu’s straightforward style with Lu Xun’s intangible style,Chen Duxiu’s abstract reasoning and Lu Xun’s figurative style.The conclusion chapter summarizes the full text,summarizing the different achievements and influence of Chen Duxiu and Lu Xun as social/civilization critics. |
