A Talk About The Cultural Criticizing Consciousness In Lao She's Novels

As a famous writer in Chinese modern literature. Lao She made his fame mainly by his novels and his unique position and value were contributed to his awareness to the cultural criticizing and the nationality, of which the cultural criticizing is an eternal subject in his novels. This thesis mainly analyses the cultural criticizing consciousness in Lao She's novels so as to explore his individual value in Chinese modern literature.This thesis based on three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion.In the introduction part, according to a brief introduction of the research of the state quo of Lao She's novels in recent ten years, I will put forward the subject of this thesis.The main body consists of three chapters:The first chapter mainly analyses the forming and evolving course of Lao She's cultural criticizing consciousness and the course can be discussed by his three creation periods: the 1920s:the establishment of his cultural criticizing consciousness that was embodied in his works written in foreign counties. The 1930s: because of his examine and analyzing the citizens′world, his works in this period were full of the criticism to both the society and the culture. So in this period, his cultural criticizing consciousness was gradually deepened. The 1940s: Lao she had a deep reflection of the nationality and the traditional culture. This was his cultural criticizing consciousness reconstruction period.The second chapter mainly discusses his introspection of the traditional culture based on the nationality. Lao She had been engaged in analyzing the Chinese traditional culture and the nationality which formed the soul of his novels. We can discuss the main body from the following three aspects: He retrospects the traditional culture through analyzing the abnormal characters. In his works, the abnormal characters can be classified into two kinds. He portrayed the nature of these characters thus revealed the side effect factors of the traditional culture. II He tried to find the essence of the traditional culture and carried forward the heroic national spirit. He not only criticized the traditional culture and the weakness of the nationality, what's more, he also advocated the positive effect factors in them. III He had the lofty ideal of raising the nationality and achieving thought enlightenment. In his works, on the one hand, he tried to reseal the weakness of the nationality, on the other hand, he quested the root that result in the weakness from the culture, the custom and the mental aspect.The third chapter focuses on the significance of his cultural criticizing consciousness. I the significance of the cultural reflection in his novels. In his works, cultural reflection was contained in his criticism to the society. On the one hand, he reflected the defect of urban civilization in the course of the transforming from the traditional world to the modern world; on the other hand, the cultural reflection consciousness criticized both the Chinese culture and the western culture in his works. II It is an important complementation to the works in the contemporary era. As a democratic personage, he valued self-experience to life and showed great concern to human world from his cultural criticism and reconstruction.The conclusion part concluded that the citizen's world in Beijing was pregnant with his creation. He uneasily reflected and choused the cultural thereby expressed his cultural ideal which had an everlasting cultural and mental value to us.
